What is Drupal?

What is Drupal?

Drupal is free, open source, content management software. It was created back in 2000 by Dries Buytaert as a internet connection project for university and shared amongst his friends, which he eventually decided to make public online, hoping to share the code and see it developed in new and better ways.

Since that time the Drupal community has grown to over a 1,000,000 members, thousands of whom contribute their free time to improving Drupal’s core package along with hundreds of modules that add additional functionality and features.

Yosemite is using the iteration—Drupal 7—as the basis of its site instances, which are given further oomph through the addition of community-created modules as well as content types and features developed by the Web Team here at UC Merced.

Because of the open-source nature of Drupal, you can also be involved in the community; it’s not just allowed—it’s encouraged! Register yourself and learn more about Drupal.
